MediaLooks Advanced File Source is an ActiveX/COM multimedia component that handles playback of various media files and supports a number of advanced features.

Overview

The File Source component is designed to handle most (if not all) of the media tasks related to file playback. Advanced features of the File Source include reverse playback, variable speed playback, segmented playback. This component also supports streaming of WMV/ASF media, such as from the Windows Media Services.

Being designed as an ActiveX/COM object, the File Source can be used in any development environment that supports the COM technology.

This component is available with our Multimedia SDK.

Possible uses

  • In media players.
  • In playout automation applications.
  • In transcoding applications.
  • For capturing of streamed WMV/ASF media. (To stream WMV/ASF video to a Windows Media Server see WMV Sink.)

Features

  • Reverse playback for DV25 and XviD in the AVI container (coming soon).
  • Reverse playback for WMV (coming soon).
  • Variable speed playback (coming soon).
  • Segmented playback (instead of playing the entire file, it is possible to play a selected segment of the file).
  • Playback of RTSP, MMS & HTTP Windows Media streams (including those from Windows Media Services.
  • Support for QuickTime movies in MOV and MP4 containers (MediaLooks QuickTime DirectShow Source required).
  • Video Scaling (with interlaced video support).
  • Overlay text & images (MediaLooks Text & Graphics Overlay required).
  • Video effects and color correction (Video Effects required).
  • Third-party DirectShow transform filters can be used as plugins (see IMGPlugins interface).

Compatibility with other components

Data from the File Source can be delivered to the following components via the built-in MultiGraph Technology.
